FELDAPP - A DIGITAL FIELD NOTEBOOK FOR OUTDOOR PROFESSIONALS

The process of translating field notes into digital form can be long, laborious and inefficient. FeldApp allows users to create digital records using a smartphone or tablet, and georeference these records using of map layers of their choice.

Synchronisation of these records to the cloud allows users to collaborate with office-based colleagues, or simply have the records available on their desktop GIS as soon as they return.

FeldApp is a mobile GIS System which allows users to take georeferenced notes of various types: text fields, numeric fields, photos, audio notes can be used alone or combined into predefined form-types. Specific user requirements can also be accommodated by arrangement. Notes are georeferenced by associating them with a feature (defined using a point, line or polygon). These notes are then accessible on the device by selection of the feature in the map interface.

Photos and notes have 'quick-links' in order to make notes through the shortest possible route. These records are then automatically georeferenced with a point (shown on an iPad)

Photos can either be selected from the device photo album or taken directly through the app (shown on an iPad)

The defining feature of FeldApp, which sets it apart from its competitors, is the ability to create and visualise these notes on top of any Cartesian-based user-provided map types, or even dynamically create a combination of map layers. These map layers are made available online, but may also be downloaded to the device.

Combined, these mapping tools can provide the best situation-awareness tool available on the market, allowing the user to take all the required records with them to the field.

The geological atlas can provide additional contextual information when combined with other layers (shown on an iPad).

The catalogue of available layers shows what can be added to the map and what is available locally on the device (shown on an iPhone 5s)

Layers can be combined, reordered and made transparent as appropriate (shown on an iPhone 5s).

Synchronisation functionality allows notes to be transferred to the desktop from within the field, allowing the user to spend more time in the field and less time entering data. The data can be hosted by GEOTEST AG, or with the customer and can be made available to commercial desktop or Web GIS products. WebGIS solutions may also be provided in the package.

The same synchronisation functionality allows users in the field to collaborate in real-time with colleagues in the office, thus solving problems in a more efficient manner.

FeldApp is available for iOS (iPhone 4 and later and all iPads) and WebGIS solutions can be provided on request.
