Eliminating a rock instability

Greece: annual inspections of rock faces and embankments are carried out along a main road to detect and assess rock instabilities. Each unstable section is broken off, made secure or left alone depending on the volume of rock, the assessment of the stability reserves and the protection provided by the technical measures in place. The video clip shows a rock clearance operation in which a section of rock (measuring around 2 m3), which had been loosened by previous blasting operations on the road embankment, is dislodged using just a small crowbar and very little force. This may have prevented a tragic accident on this very busy highway.
