MEASURING CONCRETE CORROSION
A common problem during structural maintenance is hidden corrosion damage to reinforcements. This cannot be picked up by a visual inspection. Probing and sample testing in laboratory give accurate values of a local area, but these cannot be taken as representative of the condition of the structure as a whole.
Long before corrosion-related concrete spalling occurs, the corrosion can be located using potential measurements. These measurements will give you a solid base for targeted and representative sampling as well as for maintenance planning, which translates directly into more accurate costing.
